Kaafu Atoll
Thulusdhoo
Thulusdhoo is the capital of Kaafu Atoll and best known for Cokes, one of the most famous surf breaks in the Maldives. Away from the surf, it's a relaxed island with a lovely bikini beach on its sandbank side. It surprises people by being both lively with surfers and genuinely local at the same time.

What it's like to stay here
Guesthouses are spread around the village, with surf camps near the break. The bikini beach is a pretty stretch of white sand and shallow water. Cafés serve local and Western food; the island also has a Coca-Cola bottling plant, which gave the break its name. Evenings are quiet, with surfers comparing sessions over dinner.
Pros
- World-class surf at Cokes and Chickens, right off the island
- A beautiful bikini beach for non-surfers
- Close to the airport by speedboat
Cons
- Surf season shapes the island — busier from March to October
- Reef snorkelling is better by boat than from the beach
Getting there
Thulusdhoo is in North Malé Atoll, around 30 minutes from the airport by speedboat. Shared speedboats run daily. The public ferry from Malé is cheaper and takes longer, and doesn't run every day.
The reef & the water
The reef around the island is better known for waves than snorkelling. For coral and fish, take a boat trip to nearby reefs and sandbanks. Dive centres in the area visit North Malé Atoll's channels and thilas.

The five-day forecasts cover Malé and Kooddoo, the forecast point used for Gemanafushi. Weather varies between atolls: the forecast for Malé is not a reliable guide to conditions across the Maldives. Check the forecast for your destination before travelling.
