Dharavandhoo
Dharavandhoo sits in Baa Atoll, a UNESCO biosphere reserve, and is the nearest inhabited island to Hanifaru Bay — famous for huge gatherings of manta rays in season. It has a small domestic airport and a calm, friendly atmosphere. Many visitors are surprised by how relaxed it feels compared with the islands near Malé.
What it's like to stay here
There's a modest selection of guesthouses, a few cafés and local shops. A bikini beach is available, quieter than on the busier islands. Local dress rules apply. Life is slow, and in manta season days revolve around Hanifaru trips.

Getting there
Domestic flights from Malé to Dharavandhoo take about 30–35 minutes. Speedboats from Malé take roughly 2–3 hours depending on the route and weather.
The reef & the water
Snorkelling is possible around the island, but the highlight is Hanifaru Bay, where mantas and sometimes whale sharks gather to feed in season. Trips there are regulated, with limited numbers and set times. Baa Atoll also has excellent reefs for diving outside the manta season.
